Mixbook vs Shutterfly: compare the book you need
Compare Mixbook and Shutterfly using the same size, cover, page count and delivery address. Both offer photo-book design tools; a headline discount cannot tell you which complete order costs less.
Start with 40 pages free. No card needed.

On 6 November 2026 we uploaded the same 20 licensed sample photos to both editors, selected all photos and built 10-inch square, 20-page matte-hardcover drafts. We did not order prints.
tbf scrapbook is a competing maker. These are observed editor and basket results, not a print-quality ranking. Paper choices and delivery estimates differ, so the totals are not interchangeable.

Choose the design route before comparing prices
Mixbook Auto Create initially recommended 16 of our 20 photos. Choosing All (20) used the complete set. Its four-photo attempt was refused because Auto Create required at least 20.
Shutterfly asked us to choose Best, Most or All photos, then an embellishment level. We selected All and Few stickers, left the writing fields empty, and the editor reported 20 photos used.
Price one identical brief
Our Mixbook book subtotal was US$38.99 with the account offer MXNCW6Q2. Shutterfly accepted the public 50SITEWIDE offer and showed a US$35.60 book subtotal. Offers were checked on 6 November.
Mixbook quoted US$56.50 with shipping and tax for test ZIP 10001. Shutterfly showed US$45.59 with estimated shipping before a destination-specific tax quote. These are not matched final totals.
Use the same awkward photographs
The test collection included landscape and portrait photographs and a photographed drawing. Both editors produced drafts and showed photo-use counts. We inspected covers and sampled interior views.
A complete count does not prove every crop is suitable. Shutterfly flagged seven page areas for low-resolution photos. Once Upon warned that our web-sized samples were below its recommendation.
Separate editing from print quality
Before ordering, inspect every page, the cover and anything crossing the centre. A good-looking screen design does not prove paper feel, colour accuracy or binding quality.
If recordings and owner-reviewed contributions matter, compare those requirements separately with tbf. Do not assume a conventional printed photo book includes the same digital features.
Steps
Fix the specification
Choose the dimensions, cover and final page count before viewing offers.
Try difficult images
Use the same portrait, group, wide image and scan in both editors.
Compare final baskets
Record delivery, tax and eligible discounts on the same day.
Review the proof
Check every page before deciding whether to place a print order.
Questions
Is Mixbook cheaper than Shutterfly?
It depends on the specification, destination and eligible offer. Compare final baskets for the same brief; this guide does not claim a current universal price winner.
Which has better print quality?
We have not received matching printed samples for this comparison. Product specifications and editor previews cannot establish a print-quality winner.
Do both services help arrange the book?
Their public pages describe assisted design options. Mixbook promotes Story Mode; Shutterfly lists autofill and a designer service. Check the current terms of the route you choose.
