Her first rocket.
An 18th birthday gift from a parent who kept the cereal box.
One childhood interest, in a birthday book
At four, her rocket is a cereal box held together with tape. At nine, she is still making them. Now she is packing for university to study aerospace engineering. Her mum puts the photos, drawings and old films into an eighteenth birthday scrapbook.
The book follows one interest rather than finding a photograph for every year. An old drawing can sit beside the photograph of its maker. A short home video keeps the wobble of that first cardboard rocket.
Make a scrapbook from what you kept
Choose an interest, a place or an ordinary family habit that appears in your child's photos. Find an early picture, something they made and a more recent moment. Arrange those together before adding the rest.
Recent life might mean university, work, a favourite activity or friends. Let their own interests decide where the book ends.
A fictional family story made with generated footage, narration and music. The animated book is an editorial composition.
