How to scrapbook on an iPad

For an iPad scrapbook, prepare a small set of photos, choose an editor that works on your device, then test adding, arranging and saving one page before building a book.

Select the pictures for one occasion before arranging the page. On a small screen, sorting a full photo collection inside the editor adds unnecessary work.

tbfscrapbook runs in the browser. Open the public sample on your iPad and check that you can read the photographs and keepsakes at a useful size.

Make a digital scrapbook

Add your photos and keepsakes in tbf scrapbook, then arrange them on the pages.

Prepare a photo selection

Gather the pictures for one section in a named collection. Duplicate any image you intend to crop so the untouched version stays available.

For keepsakes, take the photo with the whole edge visible. Review it before putting the paper object away.

Test moving and saving items

Touch editing can be awkward when items are small or close together. Make a trial page with a photo, a scanned object and a short block of your own writing.

  • Try moving an item without moving its neighbour.
  • Check that you can read small writing when zoomed out.
  • Rotate the iPad and see how the page view changes.
  • Save the work, close it and reopen it.

Check the page with the keyboard closed

Leave wider gaps around small keepsakes than you would on a large desktop screen. Keep text off photographs whose backgrounds are busy.

A portrait reading view can show a single page clearly. A two-page spread may need landscape orientation or a larger display to read fine details.

Steps

  1. Choose a section

Select enough photos for one occasion. Keep the rest out of the working set while you learn the editor.

  2. Prepare a keepsake

Photograph a ticket or drawing and check focus at full size. Put a working copy with the selected photos.

  3. Arrange a trial page

Place one large photo, one small object and your own text. Test selection, movement and page navigation on the iPad you will use.

  4. Reopen the saved page

Reopen the saved project and view it in both orientations. Confirm the chosen tool can save and reopen work before adding more pages.

Questions

Does tbfscrapbook have an iPad app?

tbfscrapbook is a browser studio. Open its public sample on the iPad to check the page view. Do not rely on native-app or Apple Pencil tools.

Do I need an Apple Pencil for scrapbooking?

You can select photos and type text without one. Check a chosen editor's input support before relying on handwriting or drawing tools.

Is an iPad enough for the whole scrapbook?

It may be, depending on the editor and the amount of fine positioning needed. Test the hardest planned page before deciding whether to use a larger screen.
