Making your Cancun photo book
Cancún's hotel zone is a thin strip between the lagoon and the sea, and the book goes along it and then away from it. Playa Delfines, at the far end of the strip, is a good first page. Isla Mujeres is a short ferry across, and the shallow water at Playa Norte suits the second spread. Inland, a cenote such as Ik Kil or Suytun near Valladolid makes the third. Chichén Itzá, or tacos al pastor downtown on Avenida Tulum, finishes the book.
Sargassum seaweed washes in during some summers, heaviest between May and August, so the winter months tend to have the clearest water. Cenotes are best at midday, when the sun drops through the hole in the roof. Fold the ferry ticket to Isla Mujeres into your passport and it comes home flat.
