Making your Edinburgh photo book
Edinburgh is built on hills, so most of your book will be looking up at something or down on it. Start with the castle on its rock, seen from the Grassmarket. Spread two suits the closes off the Royal Mile and the curve of painted shopfronts on Victoria Street. Put Calton Hill on spread three, with the Dugald Stewart Monument in front of the city. End on Arthur's Seat looking over the New Town roofs to the Forth, or with a day out under the Forth Bridge at South Queensferry.
Calton Hill is best in the last hour before sunset, looking west to the castle. In August the Fringe takes over the Royal Mile, and a flyer or a show ticket photographed flat dates the page for you. Bring a jacket up Arthur's Seat even in July. The wind at the top is real.
