Making your Hanoi photo book
A Hanoi book is mostly street, so let Hoan Kiem Lake give it somewhere to breathe. The Turtle Tower in grey morning haze is a quiet way in. After that the Old Quarter takes two spreads: paper lanterns on Hang Ma and the old iron of Long Bien bridge, then a stool at Pho Bat Dan and egg coffee upstairs at Giang. Anyone who went out to Ha Long Bay or Ninh Binh has the last spread waiting for it.
Around the lake the roads close to traffic on Friday to Sunday evenings, which is the one time you can stand in the road for a photo. Bring home a menu card or the sugar packet from a coffee, and lay it on a wooden table to shoot from above.
