Making your Kotor photo book
Kotor sits at the end of a bay shaped like a fjord, under mountains that go straight up. The stone lanes and shuttered windows of the old town open the book. Spread two is for the bay from the walls, after the climb to the fortress of San Giovanni. Perast, along the shore, has the island church of Our Lady of the Rocks and makes a good third spread. Cats are everywhere in Kotor, asleep on steps and in doorways, and one of them deserves the last page.
Start the walk up the walls early. There are around 1,350 steps and almost no shade. The roofs below look best in late afternoon, when the stone warms up. The fortress ticket is small and goes flat on the page beside your cat.
