Making your Kyoto photo book
Kyoto is wooden streets and temple roofs, and a portrait book suits pagodas. The red pagoda at Kiyomizu-dera opens spread one, with the slope of Sannenzaka below it. Put the Yasaka Pagoda at dusk, seen from Ninenzaka, on the second spread. Spread three is the wooden teahouse fronts along Hanamikoji in Gion. End with the red gates of Fushimi Inari, or with a day out to the deer at Nara.
Go to Fushimi Inari and Ninenzaka before seven in the morning; by nine the lanes are full. Cherry blossom on the Philosopher's Path comes in early April and the maples turn in late November. Temples sell a goshuin, a stamp written by hand in a small book, and a page of it photographed flat says where you went.
