Making your Madrid photo book
A Madrid book is mostly a walk across the centre. Begin on Gran Vía, with the Metropolis dome where it meets Calle de Alcalá. The red fronts of Plaza Mayor and the long colonnade of the Prado make a pair. The Retiro's boating lake and its glass Palacio de Cristal deserve a page of their own. Close with the skyline from the Templo de Debod at dusk, or a day in Toledo on the fast train.
The cover is chocolate with churros, which San Ginés has served since 1894 and still does at two in the morning. Midday light here is hard and white, so save the facades for after six, when the stone warms up. Museum tickets from the Prado and the Reina Sofía sit well side by side.
