Making your Malta photo book
Malta is limestone and sea, and the honey-coloured stone photographs warm at any hour. Open with the Grand Harbour from the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta, with the Three Cities across the water. Spread two can be the fishing boats at Marsaxlokk with the eyes painted on their bows. The ferry to Gozo and Comino gives you spread three, and the Blue Lagoon is as clear as a swimming pool. End with the quiet streets of Mdina or the forts at Birgu.
Marsaxlokk is busiest on a Sunday morning, when the fish market is on and the luzzus are tied up three deep. The Saluting Battery fires a cannon below the Upper Barrakka at noon. Go to Comino early, before the tour boats arrive. A bus ticket or the label off a bottle of Kinnie makes a small flat picture.
