Making your Mauritius photo book
The dodo on the cover has been gone for three centuries, but you will see it on every rum label and fridge magnet in Mauritius. Go round the island. Le Morne Brabant is the south west corner, from the beach at its foot or from a seaplane over the underwater waterfall. The coloured earth at Chamarel is just inland. The east coast lagoon and the boat out to Île aux Cerfs are the third spread, and Port Louis market, with a dholl puri from a stall, the fourth.
The trade winds blow from the south east, so the west coast at Flic en Flac is calmer and gets the sunsets. The southern winter, June to September, is cooler and drier. A tea packet from Bois Chéri is the souvenir to photograph.
