Making your Milan photo book
Milan is a city to look up in. The cathedral roof, where you walk between the spires, gives you the first spread. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is next door, with its glass vault and mosaic floor. Put the Bosco Verticale towers and Porta Nuova on the third spread, the new city against the old. The fourth is the old wooden trams on the number 1 and the Navigli canals at aperitivo time, or Lake Como, an hour north by train.
Buy the Duomo ticket that includes the roof, take the lift up and walk down. Coffee standing at the bar is cheaper than at a table, and over in a minute. The cathedral faces west, so its marble front is in sun in the afternoon; go on a clear day. A paper tram ticket, stamped on board, is the kind of thing to tuck in.
