Making your Munich photo book
Most of Munich's old centre fits inside the line of its medieval walls. Marienplatz and the carved front of the New Town Hall come first, then the view from the tower of Alter Peter, the Frauenkirche's twin domes with the Alps behind on a clear day. The Viktualienmarkt and a beer garden under chestnut trees share the third spread. The English Garden ends it, with surfers on the Eisbach wave and the Chinese Tower.
The Glockenspiel plays at eleven and noon, and also at five in summer, so plan the square around it. On autumn days with a föhn wind the Alps look close enough to touch from Alter Peter; that is the day to climb.
