Making your Sardinia photo book
Sardinia's sea is the colour people come for, so give it room. The north opens the book: the Costa Smeralda and the La Maddalena islands, pink granite against clear water. Inland, spend a spread on the nuraghi, stone towers older than Rome, and the cork oaks around them. Cagliari's old Castello quarter and the flamingos on its salt lagoon fill the third. Head down the east coast for the last, to Cala Goloritzé or the beaches at Villasimius.
Clear water photographs best with the sun high, around noon, when you can see the sand through it. Cala Goloritzé is reached on foot, and the path down is steep. The leaf on the cover is cork oak; the bark is stripped about every nine years, and the bare trunks show it. The Palau ferry ticket for La Maddalena goes in a corner.
