Making your Tallinn photo book
Tallinn's old town is a walled hill of red roofs, and the book spends most of its time looking over them. The Kohtuotsa and Patkuli viewing platforms on Toompea give you spread one. Spread two can hold the Town Hall Square and the spire of St Olaf's. Walk down Pikk jalg and through St Catherine's Passage for spread three. Put the towers of the city wall, Fat Margaret or Kiek in de Kök, on the last spread with the harbour behind.
In June the sun sets late, and the roofs stay orange until nearly eleven at night. In December the Christmas market fills the Town Hall Square. Climb St Olaf's tower for the view down and keep the ticket. A Kalev marzipan wrapper or a Vana Tallinn label can go flat on a page.
