Wedding photo album

A wedding album printed with your photos on every page. Lay-flat opens flat so one photo can cross both pages; hardback costs less and arrives sooner.

This is a printed book. Your photos are printed on the pages, so there are no sleeves and nothing to stick in.

The designs follow the classic album: one or two large photos a spread, smaller ones for the details, and your names and date on the cover. They are made for the photographer's edited set.

Lay-flat is the first choice for an album. It is made in Europe, costs more and takes longer. If time is short, choose matte hardback.

Why lay-flat

In an ordinary binding the middle of a spread curves into the spine. A photo placed across it loses a strip, often somebody's face. Lay-flat pages open flat, so the first dance can fill both pages.

Lay-flat goes up to 122 pages. An album that needs more should be a hardback, which goes up to 300.

Landscape or portrait

Landscape, 29.7 x 21 cm, suits most wedding sets, which are shot wide: the aisle, the top table, the group on the steps. Portrait, 21 x 29.7 cm, suits a set with many portraits of the two of you.

Choosing the photos

Photographers usually hand over several hundred photos. An album reads well with 60 to 100, in the order of the day.

Pick the full-spread photos first, the ones you would frame. Fill the smaller pages around them.

The cover

Put your names, the date and the place on the cover in the design's type. A plain coloured cover with one small photo sits more quietly on a shelf than a full photo cover.

A book of the guests' photos

Guests' phone photos are many and uneven. Choose a scrapbook design that prints them smaller and several to a page, where blur shows less.

Collect them in one shared folder in the week after the wedding, then choose from the folder. A softcover copy suits the wedding party.

Copies for parents

Order parents' copies with yours; each copy after the first costs less to post. A softcover copy is lighter and costs less.

Questions

How much does a wedding photo album cost?

Lay-flat from £38.99 for 18 pages, then £0.60 a page; Hardback from £14.99 for 24 pages, then £0.30 a page. UK delivery is £6.99.

How many photos should be in a wedding photo album?

About 60 to 100 photos in 30 to 40 pages, with a few full spreads for the photos you would frame.

Is it worth getting a wedding photo album?

A printed album is the copy people open at family visits, and it does not depend on a hard drive or an account still working in twenty years.

Is this an album I put prints into?

No. Every page is printed with your photos, so the album arrives finished.

Can we print a wedding photo album from the photographer's files?

Yes, if your agreement with the photographer lets you print them. Upload the full-size files, not the smaller copies made for sharing online.
