Making your California photo book
California is too big for one book, so let the coast road hold this one together and drive it south. Monterey and the cypress trees on 17-Mile Drive come first. Big Sur and the Bixby Creek Bridge follow, and they are the reason for the drive. Malibu and the pier at Santa Monica take the third spread. San Francisco and the Golden Gate can go at the front if you started there, or Joshua Tree at the back if you turned inland.
Fog sits on the coast through June, which locals call June Gloom, and it often clears by early afternoon. Drive Highway 1 southbound and the ocean is on your side of the road for every pull-out. Keep a parking stub from a state beach and a fish taco menu, and photograph them flat.
