Making your Maldives photo book
Maldives photos are mostly blue, so sort them by height or every spread looks alike. Start in the air, with the seaplane window and the atoll below it. Drop to the surface next: the villa, its ladder into the water, your mask drying on the deck. Then go under, with the turtle and the reef shark from the house reef. The last spread comes back to land, a sandbank picnic or a local island like Maafushi, where people actually live.
The sun is overhead by ten, and the water looks flat and white in photos taken then. Go out at seven, or wait for the hour before sunset, when the colour comes back. A waterproof pouch for your phone gets the shots underwater. The seaplane boarding pass is the one bit of paper from the trip worth keeping.
