Porto photo book
A4 portrait, 21 x 29.7 cm, Hardback, 24 pages
A bottle of port, a full glass and its cork stand on a blush pink cover. Porto's book holds the Ribeira seen from across the Douro, the blue tiled hall at São Bento and the top deck of the Dom Luís I bridge.

Making your Porto photo book
Porto is built up one steep bank of the Douro, so half the book is the Ribeira seen across the water. Walk the top deck of the Dom Luís I bridge for the first spread. The port lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia come next, with the rabelo boats moored below them. The middle of the book is blue tiles: the hall at São Bento station and the front of the Capela das Almas. End at the Clérigos tower, or out at Foz, where the river meets the Atlantic.
Stand on the Gaia side late in the afternoon; the low sun comes in from the west and lights up the Ribeira's fronts. A tasting at one of the lodges usually comes with a printed sheet of the wines, and it lies flat. Order a francesinha once. The granite cobbles turn slippery in rain, so wear proper shoes.
