A week in one place and a trip that moved every day want different designs.

Full-photo designs give a view the whole width of an open book. Notebook and scrapbook designs hold more, smaller photos, with room for tickets and postcards photographed flat.

Landscape suits coast, mountains and cities. Square suits phone photos taken upright. Lay-flat lets a panorama cross the middle of the book without losing a strip to the fold.

Which design for which trip

A week by the sea or in one city: a full-photo design, mostly one big photo a spread.

A road trip, a rail route or an island hop: a notebook design with a route line and small stops along it.

A honeymoon or a short break: fewer photos, one or two to a page, with a line under each for where you were.

Landscape, portrait or square

Wide views were taken wide, so they read best in landscape: 29.7 cm across a page and 59.4 cm across the open book.

If most of your photos are upright phone shots, choose portrait or square. Landscape would crop every one.

Lay-flat suits a book of panoramas. It is made in Europe, costs more and takes longer to arrive.

Cutting down the photos

Most trips come home with hundreds of photos. Make an album on your phone first and move in only the ones you would show somebody. For a week away, 60 to 80 is plenty.

Order them by day for a trip that moved, and by place for one that did not. Give the best photo of each day or place a page to itself.

Tickets and postcards

Lay tickets, wristbands and postcards on a plain table in daylight and photograph them from straight above. Add them in the studio like any other photo.

Questions

How many holiday photos fit in a book?

About 50 to 70 in 24 pages, and 90 to 120 in 40. Full-photo designs hold fewer, scrapbook designs more.

Should a holiday book be landscape or square?

Landscape for wide views and groups. Square if most photos were taken on a phone held upright.

Will it arrive in time for a birthday or Christmas?

Each cover shows its usual wait in working days, counted from when you approve the proof. Lay-flat takes the longest.

Can I put a map in the book?

Yes. Save a screenshot of the route at full size and add it as a photo.
